Today we would like to remember one of our favorite Disney Legends, Thurl Ravenscroft. Thurl was an American voice actor and singer. An accomplished singer, he performed with The Sportsmen, The Mellomen, The Johnny Mann Singers, and many major stars, including Jim Nabors and Elvis Presley. In 1995, he was honored as a Disney Legend.

Thurl was also the voice of Fritz, the parrot, in the Enchanted Tiki Room, the announcer on the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Railroad, First Mate on the Disneyland Riverboat, Mark Twain, and several other attractions in the park. He also sang the song from the Dr. Seuss classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. But he is probably most known as the voice of “Tony the Tiger”.

His career spanned over 70 years in both television, movies and radio. His voice acting career began in 1940 and lasted until his death in 2005 at age 91.Ravenscroft was married once to June Ravenscroft in 1946, they had two children. June died in 1999 from unknown causes. Ravenscroft died in his home on May 22, 2005 from prostate cancer. He was survived by his two children, Ron Ravenscroft and Nancy Ravenscroft.
