Legendary Comedian Don Rickles, Voice of Mr. Potato Head, Dies At The Age of 90

Legendary comedian Don Rickles has passed away at the age of 90. It was announced by Publicist Paul Schrifin, that the famous comedian died at his home in Los Angeles Thursday morning, due to complications from kidney failure.

Mr. Rickles had a long career and was well known for his comedic appearances on TV shows such as The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson, The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts and The Dick Van Dyke Show.

But Disney fans know him best as the voice of the beloved Mr. Potato Head from the popular Pixar Toy Story franchise. The role of Mr. Potato Head, easily the most pessimistic of all of the toys in Andy’s room, was a perfect fit for Rickles, who had a talent for roasting some of Hollywood’s most famous stars with his razor sharp wit.

In Disney Parks, Rickles portrayed Mr. Potato Head in the Toy Story Midway Mania attractions, as well as one half of William and Morris in the Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management.

Mr. Rickles got his start in a Miami Beach nightclub, where singer Frank Sinatra noticed him, after being insulted from the stage,  and brought him to perform in Las Vegas, where he became an instant hit. In 2013, Mr. Rickles received a lifetime-achievement award for comedy from The Friar’s Club, where he was considered a master roaster of celebrities.

Mr. Rickles is survived by his wife, daughter, and two grandchildren. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and fans of Mr. Rickles who will be greatly missed.
